Six Things That Change Your Quote

Electrician checking a home electrical panel
Older panels can add cost

Generator size

Sized from a load calculation. Heat pumps, well pumps and EV chargers push it up, load management brings it down.

Transfer switch type

A 200 A service-entrance switch covers the whole panel. An essentials sub-panel costs less. 400 A split services cost more.

Distance to the gas meter and the panel

Every metre of trench and gas pipe is labour. Short runs on city lots are the cheapest installs.

Meter or panel upgrades

Some FortisBC meters need upsizing, and older 60 A and 100 A panels may need replacing first.

Propane tank

No gas main means a 500 or 1,000 US gallon tank, a pad and delivery access.

Site work

Sloped lots, bedrock, floodplain pads and boom-truck delivery all add time.
